چکیده
The yeast Metschnikowia pulcherrima is frequently isolated from environmental samples and has often been reported to exhibit strong antagonistic activity against plant pathogens. In order assess the potential of this species for its development into a protection product, survival during formulation storage were quantified field efficacy was assessed over period five years. Freeze dried liquid M. formulations (i.e., with skim milk powder (SMP), sucrose, glycerol, xanthan, without additives) prepared number viable cells at different temperatures. Field trials apple postharvest diseases (Neofabreae) performed dry formulations. proved exceptionally stable many months even Five years revealed variable effects, but reduced Neofabreae infections stored apples observed in some applications after prior fungicide treatments repeatedly showed an additive effect as compared alone. summary, exhibited highly advantageous properties encouraging rots. Further studies identify factors responsible are expected lay foundation future product.

Biocontrol Activity of the Local Strain of Metschnikowia pulcherrima on Different Postharvest Pathogens
The strains of the yeast Metschnikowia pulcherrima have strong biocontrol activity against various microorganisms. Biocontrol activity of M. pulcherrima largely depends on its iron immobilizing pigment pulcherrimin. Biocontrol activity of pulcherrimin producing strain, M. pulcherrima UMY15, isolated from local vineyards, was tested on different molds that cause food spoilage. M. pulcherrima UMY...
متن کاملEffect of culture media and pH on the biomass production and biocontrol efficacy of a Metschnikowia pulcherrima strain to be used as a biofungicide for postharvest disease control.
Few strains of Metschnikowia pulcherrima (Pitt) M.W. Miller are under development for control of postharvest pathogens on fruit. A substrate was developed to optimize the biomass production of M. pulcherrima strain BIO126. Different complex nutrient sources, with or without pH control, were tested. Growth in yeast extract provided at concentrations > or =30 g*L-1 yielded the highest biomass. Th...
متن کاملBiocontrol Potential of Metchnikowia pulcherrima Strains Against Blue Mold of Apple.
ABSTRACT Eight strains of Metschnikowia pulcherrima isolated over a 4-year period from an unmanaged orchard and selected for their biocontrol activity against blue mold (caused by Penicillium expansum) of apples were characterized phenotypically, genetically, and for their biocontrol potential against blue mold on apples. All strains grew well and only differed slightly in their growth in nutri...

متن کاملBiocontrol activity of an alkaline serine protease from Aureobasidium pullulans expressed in Pichia pastoris against four postharvest pathogens on apple.
The yeast-like fungus Aureobasidium pullulans PL5 is a microbial antagonist against postharvest pathogens of fruits. The strain is able to produce hydrolases, including glucanases, chitinases and proteases. The alkaline serine protease gene ALP5 from A. pullulans was cloned, inserted into the vector pPIC9 to construct pPIC9/ALP5, and then expressed in Pichia pastoris strain KM71. ALP5 had a mol...
